The disappointment of Windows Vista.
Ever wonder what Vista stands for? It stands for Very Inefficient System to Torment All users.
On the weekend, I purchased a new laptop from Best Buy. They had this promotion going on where you could bring in an old laptop to trade in for $100 off the purchase of any Toshiba laptop. My old laptop hasn’t been used in the last six years and has been sitting in my room all this time. It was the first laptop I ever had and I just couldn’t bring myself to just trash it (I’m very sentimental).
The promotion at Best Buy was a great opportunity for me to recycle my laptop and purchase a new one. Around eight hundred dollars later, I found myself to be the proud new owner of Toshiba Satellite A200-BB5.
One thing that I think is important to bear in mind is that I have a small expectation; one that I don’t think is too unreasonable. If I purchase a new computer (laptop, or otherwise), I expect that it will out-perform my current computer, which at present happens to be a four-year old PC. I hate that even with 2 GB RAM, the new computer only marginally out performs my PC. I know a lot of it has to do with the fact that Vista is a RAM whore, but it should still be far superior to my PC running Window XP. Vista really does make Windows XP look like Windows EXPress.
Vista isn’t all bad. I like the transitions and the sidebar of gadgets, but none of that matters if I’m waiting long for things to happen. Maybe things will get a bit better as the updates and patches get installed, but if not, I guess I’ll just have to splurge and upgrade the RAM.
