CAD

Understand the advantages of using CAD, in comparison with other methods.

The advantages of using cad over other methods of drawing is that first of all it is one piece of equipment and that is just the package, if you was going to draw this then you would need different pencils and drawing boards. Using cad is also a lot faster as you can just create blocks by just clicking and dragging and yet if u make a mistake then there are no grubby rubber marks, just delete it. With cad the accuracy is 100 times better than drawing it in real life because you can do it over and over again until it is in the right place by entering the measurements in a box and it automatically makes it that size on a scale.

It is a lot cheaper to use cad in many different ways, like sending it in the post would take at least 2 days on 1st class and special delivery it might cost about £20 but with the technology we have today we can use email which is free and instant. Also with email if any changes had to be made then say what you need changing in it and send it back. In cad it doesn’t matter if you customer didn’t like the colour, background or text font because it can be changed in a matter of seconds by clicking a button. It is also much easier to store, if it was drawn on paper then you have to have a room to store it and if a fire was to happen then there goes all your drawings. However if it was stored on a laptop not only can you do it on the go but it can take about 5MB per picture if not less it can also be recovered in a fire.

This picture one of the tests we can carry out on cad, this is a analysis test and can show us where possible weakness is on the product. The red shows the weakness.

If our product has many different parts then when we create this on cad we can assemble them all as one component. If one part is too small then it can be resized.

Cad can be linked to a CNC machine to process jobs straight from the cad programme.
