There is an open source (free) version for building virtual desktops called VirtualBox at www.virtualbox.org. That way if you don’t want to format your whole computer to run Ubuntu, thereby losing your Windows environment and the ability to keep using windows, just create a Virtual Machine that you can do whatever you want with it. You can always start over from scratch if you want or just throw away the virtual machine if you don’t like it. It will give you more freedom and you will worry less about breaking things.
