What is BitTorrent? This is just a short review of what it is, and a bit about how it works.
Bit torrent is a peer to peer (p2p) program. P2P basically means that you download from other people and in return upload it to other people! Bit torrent is a great way to get music, videos, games, demos and other things. Unfortunately bit torrent is not legal; if you are downloading some program/game/video/etc that costs money it is not legal. But if it is a program/game/video/etc made by a company that produces free software and distributed the torrent themselves it is legal!
How bit torrent works is with people. The more people who use a torrent (since I have forgotten to explain what a torrent file is, it is the file used by bit torrent for info on the download!) the faster the speed is. It works so well because if you have a person uploading something, and two people downloading then one person will get different parts of the file then the other person who is downloading and can send and receive from him/her.
When using bit torrent, you have to be very careful of what you are downloading. If you are accidently downloading copyrighted material, you could get a complaint from the company who makes that item. They complain to your ISP (internet service provider) about you and you get a warning saying that you have to delete the file immediately. This goes to show that you are not anonymous online (kind of scary isn’t it!)
Anyways, this is just a bit of info on bit torrent. Hope you have a better understanding than you already did.
