How to protect your computer and keep it running like new.
Let me put it like this; if your television didn’t come on, you wouldn’t shut it off, unplug it, go into the kitchen, have a glass of water, come back, and try to turn it on again, expecting a different result.
Those of you who use Windows; those of you who earn your living as computer technicians often give that advice to callers; follow it themselves; terming the fault as; “Powering up from the wrong side of the Mother Board”.
In recognition of the flawed architecture of Gatesware, there are a number of activities you must do to keep it functioning.
First of all, you’ll need a good Malware protection program. Check Cnet

and read the reviews, make your selection, then download. There are many free applications, don’t become sentimental, as changing them periodically is not just a good idea, it is survival.
AVG
runs really nice, then takes over your computer. It creates enormous log files and eventually slows your computer to a crawl. It causes everything to hang. Whether it’s a word processing prog, a game, an internet connection, it can even cause your computer to freeze.
Deleting AVG as soon as your computer begins to slow down is survival. Replace it with Avast.
Avast takes ‘forever’ to download from the Net, and the first time it runs you can go and cook dinner before it finishes. After that first time, it’s fast, and doesn’t interfere in your life. As long as you shut off the sound.
I don’t know about you but I don’t need my computer to keep up a running commentary on it’s adventurers, hence as soon as you’ve gotten it on your computer, tweak it.
After a time you’ll move onto another malware protector. Currently I use Oibit.
Eventually, move to something else, maybe the next version of AVG, maybe AVast maybe something that doesn’t yet exist, but periodically change your Protector.
Always uninstall the previous application before starting the next one, and clean up your drive with CCleaner.

CCleaner is a cleverer form of ‘disk cleanup’ then the lazy one you get with your Gatesware.
Yes, use your Disk Cleanup every day just before you shut down, erasing the previous restore points, etc. But after a time, move up to CCleaner, which can really get the dirt out of the corners.
Along with this is Disk Defragmenter.
Yes, run it every day or do to keep your drives in order, but after a time you’ll find that it just doesn’t seem to be working. That’s the joy of Gatesware.
A really good defragmenter and optimiser is Auslogics.
It is fast and really does speed up your operation.
Use the ‘optimise’ function every so often. It will take a long time the first time you run it, and less time each subsequent time.
All the applications take forever the first time they run and less each subsequent time if you run them often. And run them often.
