Need to know information about your PC? Then this program might be the one you are after.
You’re sitting at your computer while on the phone to tech support talking about a program you are having issues with. Out of the blue tech support asks you: “What is your motherboard model and your BOIS version?”. In this situation there is a very small chance that you a going to know this information off the top of your head. This is when having a system information tool is needed. So today I will be reviewing just one of the hundreds of tools that can get this information.
Auslogics System Information is the program I’m looking at, and before you ask, yes it is freeware. Now this program is not the best one available if you’re a techie kind of person. Rather this program is more for those intermediate users who may want to know a little about their PC now and then.
Looking from the screenshot you’re probably thinking it’s made for Windows Vista and you’d be right to assume so since its interface resembles that of Vista. But no, it runs on earlier versions of Windows. Auslogics System Information’s interface is very slick and shiny and as I said before, looks like vista. I found navigating through this program very easy because of its Windows Explorer like design.
Now the information it records about your PC is quite a lot considering that it is a small program. Down the navigation it has things like: Operation System Information, Memory Information, System Device information, Network information etc… I was quite impressed with the fact that on the Memory and Performance information pages that it uses graphs. The Memory Information page displayed the processes running and displayed a pie graph showing the memory usage compared to the amount of free ram. The Performance page also gave a live view of your current system performance.
If you know about the device manager in Windows you will be happy to know that this program also lists all the devices just like it. Only, I found Auslogics System Information to provide more detailed information about each of the devices including driver information.
On the down side, Auslogics System Information doesn’t seem to have any other tools besides the fact that it gets information. There is nothing to allow adjustment to anything. It’s just a plain and simple information only tool. However you can generate a report and this would actually be a good thing to have on hand if you intend to go to your local computer shop to buy some specific parts.
So overall, if your just the standard pc user this program does all you need. But as said just before, it’s information only and will do no more then sit on your PC until the next time you need it. I’ll give it a 3.5/5 because it COULD be a whole lot better if some more tools besides making reports were added.
