Saving CDs and DVDs to Your PC

This will show you how to save CD’S and DVD’s on to your PC or External Hard drive. Once they are saved you can always burn anther without the original.

What this tutorial is going to show you is how to keep your CD’s or DVD’S for as long as you have your hard drive. one you saved the image file (don’t worry not a picture)  on your computer you will be able to burn additional copy’s or mount it on a a virtual drive. What that means is making your computer think the CD or DVD is in you computer, when really all it is is a file on you computer. So you can take the original and put it in a safe place (where it wont get scratched) and still have the CD or DVD in you computer (so to speak).

OK for starters we need software (and of course hardware IE CD or DVD drive).

Lets start with software. You need a image making software. like alcohol 120%

here is the a link to alcohol 120% (windows vista Compatible. Not for windows 7 if you would like a compatible version send me a e-mail Shmuel@ganisraelcenter.org)

And here is the link to the patch

At the last window of alcohol 120% installation uncheck the box that says run alcohol 120% and click finish.

Then run the patch.

open up alcohol 120% From your desktop (if It is not there then you can find it here,                             C:Program Files (x86)Alcohol SoftAlcohol 120)

you should see this screen (put you CD or DVD in now)

at the top left of the scree you will see image making wizard (its the firs on the list), click on it and a new window will open up here is a picture (this is not going to be exactly like yours since we don’t have the same DVD or CD inserted)

by this page click on skip reading errors the next. (again this is not going to be exactly like yours since we don’t have the same DVD or CD inserted)

now you will see this screen

by this screen you need to select the folder you want the image file to go to you can make a new one or use an existing on you choice. Also you can change the name of the image file to what ever you want. Just don’t forget the folder you put it in as you might need to know it in the future.

Hit start and you will see a progress window. When that is done you will see the image file here

From here you will be able to mount the image on to your virtual drive. Just right click and select “Mount on device” (if you have multiple virtual drives it will ask you witch one you want to mount it on). If there is a auto run program it will start shortly afterwards. And of course you will be able to browse the file just go to “my computer” (or Computer in Vista) and you will see it there just like a regular physical CD or DVD.

Now if you want to make another copy of the CD or DVD right click the image file and select image burning wizard. Then you’ll see this (once again this is not going to be exactly like yours since we don’t have the same DVD or CD)

Click next

then start
