In this tutorial we are going to create a text with fire effect.
Lets start with a new document, with the size that you want (large sizes recommended). Create 2 layers:
Layer 1: Write a white text with big sizes.
Background: Color black
Select the first layer, where we got the text. Now rotate it: Edit->Transform-> Rotate 90º AC.
Lets go to apply the wind: Filter-> Stylize-> Wind (with the default settings). Apply it again (Ctrl+F).
Rotate the image again to the starting position:
Go to Image-> Mode-> Grayscale. Combine and discart. Now go to Image-> Mode -> Indexed color, acept and go to Image-> Mode-> Color Table and select black body.
Now we can improve the effect with the blur and smudge tools:
