Photoshop Cs3 Tutorial: Evil Tag

Just a tut on my S.O.T.W winning tag. (Evil)

Welcome to another session of Mello357’s graphic design tutorials lol! No seriously ….Welcome! Well lets get started on this tut. This tut is for this tag:

Step 1: Open Photoshop and create a new document using the size 400 x 150 pixels , that should give you enough space to work with the stock We are going to use for this tag which is the one below ( I re-sized for the tutorials purposes):

Step 3: Re-size the stock by clicking Ctrl + T on your keyboard and hold shift while drag one of the corners closer to the center to maintain the image proportions so that it wont look stretched. You should have something like this:

Step 4: Duplicate the layer and bring out the smudge tool using these settings:

Then start smudging the layer around the focal going outward make sure to keep the focal as clean as possible. This should be your outcome:

Step 5: Add an adjustment layer just to play with the lighting a little and set it as so:

The results and the before and after:

Step 6: Add a c4d and erase everything except the left side of the focal just to create some flow very minuscule effect but very important for flow. Set it to lighten , Outcome:

Very subtle!

Step 7: Add a bubble c4d and erase everything over the focal. Set it to lighten , Outcome:

Step 8: Add yet another c4d preferably a light burst c4d and erase everything except what is on his right side and set it to exclusion , My result:

Step 9: Create a new layer and apply the image then transform it vertically then horizontally. Set it to color dodge 55% opacity. Erase everything over the focal with a soft brush. My outcome:

Step 10: Create a new layer and apply the image yet again , flip vertically only this time and set it to soft light 30% opacity. Result (before and after because its very subtle):

Step 11: Create a new layer and apply the image once again but this time you’re going to add a Gaussian blur of 1.5 to 2.3 and erase everything over the focal to create some depth, My outcome:

Step 12: another layer and apply the image and this time add a sharpen filter, fade sharpen to 65% and erase everything around the focal , outcome:

Step 13: Create a new layer and grab a fairly large (enough to fit on the left space of the focal) soft black brush and lightly apply it to the empty space on the left of the focal, set it to overlay.

Step 14: Add desired text now! (for better blending)

Step 15: I added my adjustment layer to play with the coloring and the overall feel of the Sig. I will not post these settings just so that you can play around with your own settings, but….. I will tell you that I used 6 adjustment layers, 3 photo filters , 2 gradient maps , some threshold , and another brightness and contrast layer. Here’s what i got after i added the adjustment layers:

Step 16: Create a new layer , apply the image and add a subtle Gaussian blur from 0.5 to 1.0 , then erase everything over the focal. My result:

Step 17: Create a new layer , apply the image , then transform horizontally and erase everything except the right side. Remember use a soft eraser. Also when you flipped it it covered the text but when you use a soft pixel brush you will reveal the text with an added mist effect , and you created more flow to that empty right side!. The result:

Step 17: Create a new layer , apply the image. Now grab the burn tool with a soft round brush and start adding lighting to your tag Darken the outsides of the tag were the black is. Then create a new layer and apply the image , this time us the dodge tool and start applying it to the fiery areas and the white areas of the Sig. Add a border and your done! Final outcome:

Hope it helps!
