Microsoft Word Tips: A Real Life Do-Over

There are a few simple tips for making your life easier with Microsoft Word.

  1. Ctrl + Z undoes the last few keystrokes or commands you’ve entered. I pressed it 50 times while writing this article and it was still undoing what I had just done. I pressed Ctrl + Y fifty times to restore my text. Before I did either I followed Word Tip #2.
  2. Save a document before making formatting changes. Save early, save often, but save nonetheless. It certainly can’t hurt. You can’t save your document too much.
  3. If you want to enlarge your text while typing, press Ctrl + roll of the mouse button. You can also do this in Internet Explorer or Firefox. If the text is too small, adjust it that way instead of clicking “Zoom In.”
  4. Press F4 to repeat an action. Want to highlight text but don’t want the hassle of going up to the Toolbar and selecting a highlighter. You do that one time and then you can click F4 to repeat the action.
