Install the Windows 7 RC requires a DVD burner but for those of us who have DVD ROM’s and not burners the good old flash drive can be used to accomplish the task. you will need at least a 4gb.  Here is how

Step #1: Proper formatting programs

You will need these (look em up on google and down load them)

USB Prep 8

bootsect (put it on your desktop and rename the folder bootsect.exe comes with to “bootsect”)

Step #2: Get your flash drive formatted

Make sure you have all the data on your flash drive backed up; IT WILL BE COMPLETELY DESTROYED OTHERWISE

Open up USB prep 8.

Select your flash drive (ignore the photo that says no USB disks found)

Enable Quick Format and make sure the drive label is USB_XP_710 

agree to all the alerts (unless you haven’t gotten your data backed up)

Step #3: Update your flash drive’s boot code

Go to: Start > Run > cmd

use this command to navigate to the folder where bootsect.exe is stored:

cd /d documents and settings (your user name) desktopbootsect

then type: bootsect.exe

after that bootsect.exe should be activated and you can edit the boot code of your flash drive. to do this type:

bootsect.exe /nt60 (Flash Drive Letter):

then your drive should be a bootable disk

Step #4: Flash drive —-> Windows 7 OEM DVD

Go to where you stored the Windows 7 ISO and right click on it

Extract it with WinRAR onto your flash drive

IMPORTANT: DO NOT PUT THE EXTRACTED FILES UNDER ANY SUB FOLDER ON YOUR FLASH DRIVE!!!

Step#5: Booting from a flash drive

now reboot your computer and when it first starts up observe the screen. before getting to the to your Windows boot screen you will notice it will have temporary loading screen with some text that says something like “F8=Setup, F12=Boot Menu”

press whatever button correlates to the boot menu

on your boot menu you should see something like this:

choose the USB Pen drive and hit enter and you should get the Windows 7 Setup
