How to Install Counter Strike Maps in Nine Easy Steps

This is an easy-to-follow guide with screenshots to teach you how to install maps for Counter Strike: Source.

How to add CS:S maps to Counter Strike: Source

Note: Most of the time, if you just extract the file to: Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Steam > SteamApps > (Username) > Counter-strike source > cstrike > maps, the map should work; as some maps are only bsp or nav formats. If you extracted the contents to this folder and it still doesn’t work, you’ll have to do it manually.

1.    First, download the map that you want (FPSBanana.com is a good site to download off CS:S and other Counter Strike version maps).

2.    Once finished downloading (It should be a zip or a rar format), right click the file and click extract to Desktop.

3.    Then open up in another window:  Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Steam > SteamApps > (Username) > Counter-strike source > cstrike.

4.    Then see what item formats were extracted onto Desktop by right clicking the file and clicking “Properties”.

5.    If the format ends in: bsp, txt, nav or res, the file belongs in: Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Steam > SteamApps > (Username) > Counter-strike source > cstrike > maps. Just drag the file into that folder.

6.    If the format ends in: ain, they belong in: Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Steam > SteamApps > (Username) > Counter-strike source > cstrike > maps > graphs.

7.    If the format ends in: cache, the file belongs in: Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Steam > SteamApps > (Username) > Counter-strike source > cstrike> maps > soundcache.

8.    If the format ends in: vmt or vmf, the file belongs in: Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Steam > SteamApps > (Username) > Counter-strike source > cstrike > materials.

9.    If the format ends in: mdl, the file belongs in: Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Steam > SteamApps > (Username) > Counter-strike source > cstrike > models.

Having fun killing!
