Your Computer isn’t OLD or BROKEN; it’s just CLOGGED!!!

Many people run there computers, downloading and installing Games, Programs, and viewing all this stuff on the Internet; what they don’t realize is that while they are doing that, they are making their machines run slower and slower…and slower!  You can’t do that! Soon you will open up Paint and it will take 1 minute, so you need to run several programs to clear up your messes on your computers.

Internet:

If you do not have the most current Internet provider; Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3.5, etc.  Please install the most current version and reboot your computer is necessary.

Updates:

You need to run updates to get the most recent OS, Security and Program features.  Open up Control Panel and select Windows Update.  Check for Updates and once it has found then, view which Updates it has selected. Never check the Optional feature unless you see something for your Graphics Card, Audio System, Programs, etc.

Once you have finished selecting updates you wish to download and install, install them by clicking the”Install Updates” button.

Once the Download and Installation is complete, Reboot/Restart your computer.

Cleanup:

After running Windows Update, and getting all the updates needed to make your computer run a bit smoother.  Open up “Start” on the desktop, and open up “All Programs”.  Open “Accessories”, then “System Tools”.  Open “Disk Cleanup”, it will scan the disk to calculate how much room it can regain for you.

I would Select all of the files, this will give maximum cleanup on your Disk.  Click “OK” and wait for Disk Cleanup to…Cleanup!

Disk Defragment:

Vista –

If you are using Vista, DO NOT USE THE BUILT IN DEFRAGMENTER! IT IS VERY WEAK COMPARED TO THE XP VERSION! Instead, download this powerful Defragmenter called Auslogics Disk Defragmenter!

What Does Fragmented Mean?

This is the last step and the most important step, all the actions in the past were preparation to this point.  When a file or program if “Fragmented” it means, the program or file is spread out across the Hard drive, which makes it hard for the computer to find the data and execute it.  Disk Defragmenting finds and combines data that belongs together, so when the computer executes the program all the data is right there together!

Defragmenting:

When using the Windows XP Disk Defragmenter, usually the first time through, it takes the longest but it only Defragments the files, it doesn’t move them closer together.  So I would run the Disk Defragmenter over and over again till it only take about 20 seconds per Defragmentation.  By now there should be a clump of Blue and Green in the Left corner.

When using Auslogics Disk Defragmenter, just run it about 5 times, that should be good enough because it’s a very powerful program.  But you should see a clump of Green, Blue, and maybe some Purple, mostly at the top of the chart.
