The so called ‘free’ registry cleaners that I have tried only clean a certain number of files and then charge you to complete the task. The most recent one which I declined pops up every day and starts finding faults again. I can’t get rid of it. Have you any answers?

Christine, go to the start button and click on it, click on run, type in msconfig and press enter. open the start up tab and uncheck all the things that you don’t want to run at start up. If you are not sure what something is do a google search to find out. Once you have deselected the annoying stuff click apply and close the window. When you restart your computer a message will pop up saying you have altered the start menu, just check the box to tell it not to inform you of this again. That will stop the thing popping up every day, but you still need to find and delete it.

Very useful article, but you should always be cautious when using registry cleaners. If you are not sure how to use them, it is better not to use registry cleaners.

I have been using ccleaner for a couple of years now and have NEVER had it screw up my registry. Also if you are unsure it gives you option to backup before you do it. by far its a great program, also tweaknow powertools is good (which includes their regcleaner and defragger)
