For those of you who don’t know, or don’t own an iPhone, the Facebook app for the iPhone was recently updated to version 3.01. The new update added many great features to the app that make it so much more useful and more similar to the actually Facebook website.

The first thing you’ll notice when you open the app is the new home screen. This allows you to access all of your tasks right from one page. Another thing you can do with the home screen is to add your favorite friends so you can just select their picture icon and go to their profile without having to search for them manually.   

The picture on the left is the new Facebook app…it is much more useful than the previous versions. Also, you can access your events on the phone now instead of having to use a computer to see all of your events.

Another annoying thing that you couldn’t do on the old version was “like” something. Now, with the new 3.01 version, you can “like” and comment and status updates, pictures, etc. This is a great update because I always got frustrated that I couldn’t do this with the previous versions.

I was reading reviews on the app store for the Facebook app and some people reported bugs in the software but I haven’t experienced any problems. They have updated the app twice since they released the 3.0 version last week, presumably to fix these infamous bugs people are complaining about. As long as you check for updates regularly on the app store, you shouldn’t have any problems using this app.

One thing that bothers me is that you still can’t see birthdays for people. I hope that the next big update for this app will include a birthdays sections or some way of notifying the user of their friends’ birthdays. Also, they should add a feature that integrates your contact’s pictures with their Facebook profile pictures, birthdays, addresses, etc. There is an app for this but I believe it costs $2.99. For some reason, the Facebook app for BlackBerry had this built in so I don’t understand why they can’t do the same for the iPhone.

Overall, everything is much more streamlined and after using it for a week, I can say I love it so much better than I did before. They improved everything that bothers users in the past and more! The best part about this app is that it is FREE! Everyone should download this app if they haven’t done so already.
