What is cloud computing?

The term cloud computing has been floating around the ears of techies and digital enthusiasts ever since the release of the internet. The internet started off quite small with the intent for government use only, but as the potential and future for the internet grew, so did its audience. In modern society, the internet is seen as the largest information highway in the world, and providing access to that highway to perform daily functions and tasks allows cloud computing to exist.

Cloud computing in its essence, is the ability to perform tasks over the internet. With the abilities of cloud computing today, many companies as well as individuals can perform tasks over the internet that would normally require much more effort or work if the internet were non-existent. Typical examples of cloud computing include using web applications such as Microsoft Office Online, sending emails, or even letting someone else use your computer’s processing power through the internet so that they can more quickly solve highly complex mathematical equations.

Yeah, it’s a great idea. I use it all the time with GoogleDocs, it saves space, and I normally keep it private. With nothing on my computer expect for my software, I make the most of it.
