A good antivirus program is mandatory for everybody but what to do, if you don’t like Norton, AVG, Kaspersky or the other big names? Get Clamwin, of course.
I have always been a fan of open source software and I am always happy when I find a good open source program to use. In fact, most of the stuff I use is open source, so in that relation Clamwin is not an exception because it is just one of the many open source programs I use.
Clamwin Does a Perfect Job for Free
One of the things that make some people skeptical about free software are wrong beliefs about its quality. Nobody says that good software is cheap but this doesn’t mean that there are no free and good programs. When there are so many paid programs that are much worse than their free open source counterparts, it is naïve to think that when you pay, you are buying quality in its purest form. The truth is that many free open source programs are far better than their commercial competitors.
When security is concerned, compromises with quality are even more dangerous and maybe that is why people are even more skeptical that a free open source program can deliver the same quality as the big guns. Well, for an enterprise, Norton’s products are an indisputable leader but for personal use there are many other alternatives and Clamwin is one of them. It is true that if an antivirus doesn’t do the job, it makes no sense to use it but Clamwin is not such an antivirus program – it does a perfect job for free.
Clamwin Is Easy and Simple to Use
Clamwin has a large database of pests and this database is regularly updated. This is enough to provide protection to any home user. The interface of Clamwin is very simple and you won’t have to spend hours trying to figure out how to perform a scan or how to change a particular option.

If you still don’t want to leave your old antivirus program, you don’t have to. It is quite probable that your old antivirus program and Clamwin will coexist, so you can have them both installed on the same computer. I have tried this with Norton Antivirus and both programs worked just perfectly when installed on the same computer.
