Create Unbounded Hatches in Autocad

AutoCAD Tips.

You can define a hatch boundary with “HATCH” by specifying boundary points. For example, you might want to show that a large area of a drawing is filled with a pattern by filling only a small section of that area, as shown in the following illustration.

In the illustration, you define an area to be hatched by specifying points directly. The hatch pattern is EARTH, and it is rotated 45 degrees. You can choose whether to retain the polyline boundary after the hatch is created; here the polyline boundary is not retained.

To define a boundary by specifying points

  1. At the Command prompt, enter hatch.
  2. Enter the desired pattern. For example, enter earth to select the EARTH pattern.
  3. Specify the scale and angle for the pattern.
  4. At the Select Objects prompt, press ENTER.
  5. Enter n to discard the polyline boundary once the hatch area has been defined, or enter y to create a polyline.
  6. Specify points to define the boundary, enter c to close the polyline boundary, and then press ENTER.

Command line:  HATCH

Commands:

HATCH – Fills an area with a nonassociative hatch pattern

Enter a pattern name or [?/Solid/User defined] <current>: Enter a predefined or custom pattern name, enter an option, or press ENTER

If you want to fill an area with a nonassociative hatch pattern:

Enter a pattern name or [?/Solid/User defined] <current>:  Enter a predefined or custom pattern name, enter an option, or press ENTER

Use BHATCH to create hatches and fills in a dialog box and to create associative hatches.

HATCHEDIT – Modifies an existing hatch object

If you enter -hatchedit at the Command prompt, “HATCHEDIT” displays prompts on the command line.

If you enter -hatchedit at the Command prompt, HATCHEDIT displays prompts on the command line.

Select associative hatch object:

Enter hatch option [Disassociate/Style/Properties] <Properties>:  Enter an option or press ENTER

Note:

You may have difficulty when trying to select a solid-fill hatch pattern because there are no visible grips or lines to click. For best results, either click the outer edges of the hatch pattern or use a crossing window selection.
