Uninstalling RealPlayer 11 (Deb package) from Ubuntu 9.10.
In this guide, you will learn how to properly remove RealPlayer 11 from Ubuntu 9.10.
In order to remove RealPlayer 11, you will need to log in into your Ubuntu computer through “superuser” or “root” to obtain the proper privileges in order to remove this program from your computer.
How to do so can be done this way:
1. Open the “Terminal” program located in your “Accessories” folder.
2. In the terminal window, type as followed:
sudo passwd root
3. When you see “Enter New Unix Password”. Enter the password you would like to have, retype it as it prompts you to, then hit enter.
4. Now you will need to log out of your account and log into the root account using the user name “root” and then typing in the password you gave when creating your “New Unix Password” in the terminal before.
5. Upon logging in, open the “Terminal” program located in your “Accessories” folder.
6. In the terminal windows; type as followed:
dpkg -r realplay
From there RealPlayer should have now been removed from your computer. Please note that logging into “Root” can make your computer more vulnerable as it is less secure than your original account you created.
