In this article I tell about HTML5 and Youtube.
I bet most of you know or heard about HTML5 web standards. Well many websites have been applying it ,and lots of video streaming sites because It supports h.264 video encoding. So, now you won’t need Flash Player to view the videos anymore ,and load pages faster. YouTube know has a HTML5 version of the site in beta testing right now which you can join at http://www.youtube.com/html5. I have tested it out ,and used it ,and here are my thoughts on HTML5 Youtube and HTML5 in general. The first thing that I noticed was that the video player looks a tad different ,but nothing drastic ,or very different. The second ,and probably the best was that the loading/buffering was WAY FASTER than the Flash version. I loved it the streaming was amazing because of the h.264 encoding which works well and is well praised. I would suggest to you guys to try the beta ,and experience fast buffering. Now on HTML5 in general… HTML5 is a great new technology. It is good at making simpler animations and good graphics without monster animation or image files. It makes a great lightbox, gallery, and the best is embedding videos on your site. Now, what it doesn’t do. It is great and can replace Flash embedding ,and some menubar image’s and some Flash animations and etc. At this point it cannot replace Flash games, big animations, and lots of interactivity because that is what Flash does and no one can deny that. So, hold your horses Apple Flash is NOT old web technologies and will be around for a lot longer. So, rig your website up with as much HTML5 for faster page loading speeds and more, but don’t forget Flash.
