Whats Windows 7 and is it any good?
The Windows 7 RC (release candidate) was released a while ago, its a trial of Microsoft’s newest OS, Windows 7!
Now many people were annoyed by vista, many drivers weren’t compatible, many programs weren’t compatible, lots of things didn’t work. Plus there was so much “eye candy” that it slowed down you computer. Windows 7 looks like it has fixed most of that so far, after installing it all my drivers worked, all my programs, but there’s on thing. Just like vista it’s resource heavy, you need at least 1GB of ram to run it and that’s 50% of my ram gone right there! So unless your computer is pretty new, stick with what your using now.
But most people are wondering how the RC works. First of all download the RC here: HTTP://www.Microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/default.aspx
NOTE: This will install windows 7 without removing your current OS. I am not responsible for anything that goes wrong, such as your system crashing because it doesn’t meet the requirements.
Now you’ll need:
- 1 Blank DVD (not CD)
- 1 PC with a DVD burner (preferably the one you downloaded the RC to)
- 1 PC that meets these requirement
- 1GHz or faster 32 bit or 64 bit processor
- 1GB ram (32 bit) or 2GB ram (64 bit) (preferably a lot more, an extra GB or so for programs)
- 16GB available disc space (32 bit) or 20GB (64 bit)
Now when you downloaded it you should have gotten a code. Write that down on a piece of paper.
You’ll also need ISO burning software, download this one: HTTP://download.cnet.com/Active-ISO-Burner/3000-2646_4-10602452.HTML?tag=mncol
Once your done downloading that burn the ISO image (the RC file) onto the blank DVD, put the now burnt DVD into the DVD drive and restart your system. You will be asked to boot from a CD/DVD, press “yes” or any key. Choose all your options until it comes to a “Where do you want to install windows?” screen. Click Drive Options(Advanced) then click “new” or “create” partition and select the amount of drive space you want. Put at least 50GB regardless of bit version, you want enough to have your files on there. If windows 7 is going to be your primary OS put at least half your hard drive. Now just follow the instructions and your good to go!
