And maybe should stick with xp or just about any other operating system out there…
I was looking around triond and i saw on the hot content box an article called “Why You Should Upgrade to Windows Seven”. I read through it and was appalled at the reasons given, mainly because i can do almost everyone of them with windows xp, an operating system that doesn’t use up half your ram and memory just to keep running anyway! Please note that this is my personal opinion and i am certain many people will disagree with what i have to say, if this is the case feel free to tell me in the comments or via a message or something because i would like to hear others opinion on this matter. Also i do not mean this as a personal insult to the “Why You Should Upgrade to Windows Seven” article either and in fact the author decides against getting Windows 7 anyway.
The “Pin” Feature:
Apparently with Windows 7 you can pin icons to the taskbar, just like you can on every mac ever and on Vista! To be fair i don’t think you can do this on Xp, but thats what the start menu is for anyway.
The “Snap” feature:
Now when you move windows to the edge of the screen it resizes them! Amazed? Me neither, especially considering how much easier it is to just drag the edge of the window to resize it. Using this would only allow you to make your windows smaller anyway.
The “Aero Shake” Feature:
Despite sounding very cool, this is the most useless feature of the bunch (at least if you only count the ones that actually are features). If you select a window and click and drag it so that you are shaking it, all your other windows disappear. No joke. This sounds more annoying than anything, as it has no use at all unless for some bizarre reason you want to have a window open that doesnt take up all your screen so you can see part of your background. In that case then sure go get Windows 7 if your too lazy to just minimize the other windows. How do you get your other windows back i hear you ask? No idea, it doesnt say…
Easy Networking:
No, Easy Networking doesn’t mean you can easily network, what gave you that impression? Easy Networking actually means that if you connect 2 computers and then listen to a song on one computer, then you can select the song and set it to play on the other computer! The real kicker to this one is that even if you do think this is a great feature, you could already do it on Vista and XP anyway, not that anyone i know has ever actually done it.
Improved Performance:
Well done Microsoft! You have managed to make your new operating system marginally faster than Vista when searching for files or deactivating sleep mode! You deserve a pat on the back. Shame you can’t quite get the speed you got back in 2001 with Windows XP. Maybe next time huh?
Internet TV:
I still can’t believe they are counting this as a feature. We can already do this, all over the internet anyway, end of story.
Fewer Interruptions:
In Vista every time you wanted to do anything, even on an administrator account you get asked permission. It was very possibly the most annoying thing ever created. Windows 7 apparently has “fewer” of these. Sounds great untill you consider that XP wouldnt ask you permission for something you already chose to do ever.
Touch Screen:
You can already use any version of windows with a touch screen moniter so this one simply doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
Customizable:
Now you can change the sounds your computer makes and the colour of your taskbar! Yes you guessed it, those options have been on every version of windows ever made…
Do you think any of these are worth the £65 you would have to pay for it? If so please at least explain to me why, as i am at a loss as to why people buy these things. Is it that they actually think it is better? Is it better somehow but no one has told me how? Is it just that people assume it is better and therefore buy it? I don’t know but from what i can tell Windows 7 is just a more annoying version of XP that uses more memory and Ram and takes longer to do things…
