Looking for Windows 7 Starter Edition Printer Driver for Hp 900?

This is for HP 900 printer owners looking for compatible printer driver for Windows seven Starter Edition.

I am posting this note for those people who may have difficulty finding a Windows 7 printer driver for HP 900.

It took me maybe two hours looking for a compatible printer driver for HP 900 under the Windows 7 Starter Edition operating system that I am using in my emachines laptop. I clicked on the HP website but found out that HP has not released a printer driver for the old HP 900 printer. The HP 900 series has only HP 920c as the nearest model number but the only available printer drivers are for Windows Vista, none of Windows 7 Starter Edition printer drivers.

Buy a New Printer? Nah!

I had the tendency to buy a new printer to make use of my seldom used HP 900 printer but then again had second thoughts because it is still new and I liked the printer as it is highly economical. It prints a ream (500 pieces) of paper with just a single black cartridge. I do not want to return to the old Windows XP or Windows Vista operating system. I just love the security features of Windows 7.

The Tedious Search for Windows 7 Printer Driver

I kept on looking for the printer driver using Google, tried an HP Universal Printer driver PCL 6 but to no avail. I came across a Yahoo answer recommending download of a printer scanner. I downloaded the utility for several minutes and installed it in my computer. Again, it did not work. It just asked me if I would like to pay $29.90 so I will enjoy the full functionality. Trash. I left it out and uninstalled the utility from my computer. It just occupies space without any use but remind me to buy their product that does not work.

Windows XP Printer Driver for HP 900 Works in Windows 7

Then I remembered I have downloaded an HP 900 printer driver for Windows XP in my computer, stashed in the Apps folder. I looked it up and luckily found it still there. It has a file name of HP_900_Inkjet_enu.exe.

I installed the HP_900_Inkjet_enu installation file, wrote a phrase in Microsoft Word and printed it. Voila! It prints! I can now use my HP 900 printer using the Windows 7 Starter Edition.

The conclusion of the matter is: HP 900 printer driver for Windows XP works in Windows 7 Starter Edition, too. And nobody in my exhaustive search of articles, chats, forums, or even in the HP site adviced that HP 900 Printer Driver for Windows XP also works for Windows 7 Starter Edition operating system! Imagine the time I used up just looking for an HP 900 printer driver for Windows 7 Starter Edition. It is simply just running the HP 900 printer driver for Windows XP.

So this may be just one of the ploys of these manufacturers to keep on producing new products that are incompatible with the old ones so buyers will have to buy new ones. You can see that my printer above is still looking new and it is nonsense and costly to buy a new one.

All right. Let’s get back to your query.

So, if you want to enjoy still your HP 900 printer in your new Windows 7 Starter Edition operating system, you just have to download the HP 900 printer driver for Windows XP here. No need to buy a new printer or change your operating system back to Windows XP.
