For MSN Live Messenger you need installer which you can get from Window XP machine or even you can download it from internet. However keep this in mind that never download and install online installer like wlsetup-custom.exe. This kind of installer will not work with wine. For this purpose you need to install “Install_ {508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0}.msi” which you can get from “Program files/Common Files/WindowsLiveInstaller/MsiSources”. Also install “Install_ {508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0}.msi” which is necessary for MSN Live Messenger 2008 and 2009 when you get installer from Window XP machine. You can also download installer from Google or any host however keep this in mind that version of installer should same as of MSN Live Messenger. When you will download installer it would like this:

$ msiexec /i Install_ {508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0}.msi

This installer will in the terminal of your Operating System. When installer will complete run of winecfg then select “Add application”, after this go to “.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Windows Live/Messenger” and here select “msnmsgr.exe”. doing all this now set the version of windows for “msnmsgr.exe” which should be win2000 and click OK.

After completing all this installation process now run $ wineboot. After running $ wineboot follow the instruction from tutorial Messenger, it will start and you need to sign in the messenger. This whole process of installation of MSN Live Messenger on Ubuntu Linux is good only for version 2008 and version 2009.
