Linux vs. Windows

Does the penguin catch the butterfly, or the butterfly the penguin?

For many years people have been using operating systems offered by Microsoft, but unfortunately the pricing has always been terrible, but lets think for a minute. Is Windows worth the 100$, 200$ dollars it costs us?

I have been using for a long time the Windows platforms and to be honest I find Windows XP the most stable, and reliable OS presented by Microsoft. Vista stinks (Way too many errors, bugs, and is almost compatible with nothing), not to mention the “new” upcoming Windows 7 which is currently in Beta. Even if Windows 7 is in Beta it is almost identical to Vista, except the task bar in Windows 7 is more Transparent. Windows even soon wants us to pay for support if you are using XP…

As for Linux… Well you can’t complain really about Linux, due to the fact that most versions are free. Linux is free, open source, easy to use, and best of all excellent support! you don’t need to wait for ages so that you are answered by e-mail what to do. Instead you can just ask help from the community and you can get an answer almost instantly. Cool huh? Well this still doesn’t answer why does everybody still use Windows? Why Linux is better could give you a long list why to use Linux and it gives only four reasons why to stick with Windows. I have even accidentally found once the Ubuntu Studio, which is used to edit videos, music, images and other media.

Unfortunately Linux doesn’t support .EXE files without Wine and if you are a true PC gamer you would know that it can be quite hard to get PC games to work for linux.

If you should chose from Linux or Windows currently I would say use Windows. I don’t say I like it I say that currently it’s the leading OS, But you never know what may happen…

Everyone seems to love Ubuntu at the moment. I found it a bit overwhelming really, while slightly better than some LINUX distros, it assumes quite a bit of user knowledge aforehand.

Anyone interested in trying a LINUX distribution (”distro”) should give “PCLinuxOS” a try. It is LINUX without a doubt, but it is styled to resemble WINDOWS_XP with things in the same general location. It is easier to figure out, intuitively, if you are familiar with XP. But yes, the inability of LINUX to handle executable files in a bit of a drawback… perhaps that is the next milestone for LINUX.

Nice article. :-)
