I’ve been having so many issues with my HP laptops. I just really want to vent. >=(
Problems I’ve had with HP laptops:
For my previous HP laptop, I had to buy a power cord three times. It would just all of a sudden stop charging my laptop. Windows somehow accumulates a lot of junk and slows down my computer completely. The screen no longer stayed up. I suppose a spring or something broke. This was a 15.4 inch laptop, Windows ME, great and fantastic when I just got it. After about 2 ½ years.. this is what happens.
My current laptop is about 1 ½ years old now. I bought it just last January. I’m also on the third power cord with this one. I just bought a second one over the summer and it already busted. Apparently, there are really thin copper wires that come out of the adapter than get easily bent/twisted.. and break. The Best Buy guy told me this. He also told me that not taking it around would help protect it and not get bent.
Mental note: isn’t a laptop supposed to be portable?? Isn’t that the whole point of getting one?
Other issues:
Windows is really slow on this laptop now as well. Mind you I have Windows Vista. I just had it reformatted and about a couple days later, I was having issues yet again. My iTunes totally failed me. I got rid of it. My external (which is the hard drive from the old laptop) started freezing up whenever I tried looking in the folders and files. I’d have to keep restarting the computer.
My laptops also heat up very quickly and pretty much transfer its blazing heat through anything. My thighs do not appreciate this.
While I was writing this article, I got the infamous “(Not Responding)” message a few times..
Things I’ve done to resolve the issues (or at least tried to resolve):
I recently reformatted my computer to help the slowness. However, since I still have issues, I try not to do too much on the laptop. (Fail.)
I installed a new program called Songbird and that has proven to be much more efficient than iTunes so far. It also syncs to your iPod which is pretty cool. It’s pretty much just like iTunes, so I didn’t have to get used to a whole new program. I actually liked iTunes for its features.
I’ve started using Spyware Terminator to find any malware. It’s been pretty helpful so far (I hated Norton).
I now make sure that my power cord doesn’t get bent in that same stupid spot. It’s kind of difficult, though, since I take my computer everyday to school (hence, the fact that laptops are SUPPOSED to be portable..).
My future dreams:
I believe I’ll have to cross over into the world of apple. Scary, I know. I hate being a conformist.. unless absolutely necessary. I’ve been watching the tutorials on apple.com and started falling in love with the MacBook Pro. Now I really want one
. Sigh. Not only does it look pretty, it has such a fast processor. Viruses aren’t an issue. They actually last more than 2 years. My one friend got a Mac 5 years ago, and it still runs like new (what a concept!!). Everyone around me is now getting a Mac. I’ve had the opportunity to play on them.. and they are quite fantastic, not going to lie. ANDD they don’t burn my thighs!!!
Now I just have to find some way to pay for one.. they’re expensive. For good reason. Me going cheap and getting HP laptops continuously (along with the power cords) probably could’ve gotten me TWO Macs. Arghh! I’d probably still have my first Mac working and I’d still be using it.. instead being on my second crummy HP laptop. (Remember that I haven’t mentioned anything about the problems I’ve had with my desktops.. I’m on number two.. I’ve had a Compaq and now an HP.. I’ll just say ARGHHH again..)
I know you can tell by now that I’m not really technologically savvy. That gives people out there just like me that much more of a reason to get an Apple. Even for those of you who ARE techies, you could do so much with the Apple hardware/software for whatever it is you need to do. I could go on and on as to why I’ve fallen in love, but I wouldn’t give it justice.. just go to www.apple.com.
