What Will You Do If Your System is Running Low on Virtual Memory?

These days with the development in the world of softwares, they come for everything in every shape and size but the problem is that your computer comes with a limited memory space. Although, Microsoft Windows does its best to utilize what memory you already have installed, at times it is not enough to operate many programs. In such instances, Windows will use something called a “Virtual Memory”, sounds fancy, but it is actually t some allotted space that the computer will make use of when there is no sufficient memory (RAM). If you are very mush used to multi-tasking you would have encountered an error reading "Your system is low on virtual memory".

If you are very mush used to multi-tasking you would have encountered an error reading “Your system is low on virtual memory”.

If you happen to notice that your computer is running as slow as a sloth, it could be that your system is low on virtual memory. To take boos t your computer’s performance you have to increase your virtual memory. To do this, you first need to have some knowledge of your computer and operating system. Windows naturally allocates a certain space am by automatically calculating how much it your actual RAM.  It is also essential to know how much memory the OS will need to perform better.

There is another method which is to clean your hard drive up so that Windows will automatically try to use bits of it to create virtual RAM. To be precise, Windows really does not know to differentiate between what you call RAM or the “virtual” memory. You can also try to re- install your OS on your hard disk to make it active. When you get the required space on your drive, then the error will be taken care of automatically. To avoid such problems every now and then, be consistent in maintenance by doing the defragmentation. This process will replace your “virtual” memory by not fixing the bits which were in fragments before.

To change your virtual memory properties:

1. Right mouse click on “My Computer” and select “properties” from the drop down list.

2. Click the “advanced” tab, and click the “settings” button in the performance section.

3. Click “advanced” tab in “Performance Options”.

4. Click the “change” button in the virtual memory section.

5. Select the option “system managed size”.

6. Click on “Apply” or “Ok” to bring it into effect.

If all these efforts fail, there is another option which is quite effective which is nothing but to add more RAM to your computer.  These days RAM has become inexpensive. This is not always applicable because at times you may be using the maximum RAM allowed on your mother board and cannot expand it. If even this option fails then it would be because of some corrupted program that you may be running or some kind of virus would have preyed your computer.
