This topic will talk about blu-ray and what it is, also touching on the playstation 3
Many people I know have been asking about blu-ray, the new technology seems to have people in a spin, I wondered why, when I had a look for information on blu-ray I was confused myself. In the end I did enough research to tell people about blu-ray in an easy to understand manor.
Blu-ray is a new cd format disc, please don’t think however it’s a cd I was just describing what it is like, blu-ray can hold up to 25GB of data on one layer, on a double layer disc it can increase to 50GB now that is a lot of data.
Now you may ask yourself why they would want to do this, well with the era of HD (High Definition) coming quickly around the corner we need bigger discs to fit all the extra data they will carry. This means that if you buy a blu-ray player and a blu-ray disc you will experience the highest quality movie you could possibly see.
I have seen people say that the images are better then those you would see at the movies, now that is a bold claim. Blu-ray however is not a HD DVD, these are in fact a different kind of DVD disc that we shall see surfacing; I shall talk about these at a later date.
Now everyone as asked me if a blu-ray disc will run on your standard dvd player and the truth is…. No, you will need to buy a new player altogether, these when first released will not be cheap setting you back around £400 the estimates are right now.
Blu-ray as been snapped up by Sony as their choice of disc for their new Playstation 3 so my advice is if you’re going blu-ray buy the Playstation 3 it will play games and even blu-ray movies, it will be a killer buy.
The worse news is that blu-ray is expected to one day take the place of the faith full DVD which means you will no doubt end up buying one in the long run.
