So which one is better? Both of these graphics cards are very expensive and there are many things to look at when comparing the two, so I have written a paragraph on each one and then I’ll type my conclusion. What it better for the extreme gaming performance?

Nvidia Dual GPU 295 (x2) Quad SLI

This is currently Nvidia best graphics card there is. As it is effectively two cards in one. With the current drivers Nvidia provides, the maximum amount of cards are two. (of these) Since they are dual GPU that gives you a Quad SLI setup. There are many benefits from this. First of which is that if you have only two – three PCIe slots it saves a lot of space. So if you have, lets say the Asus P6T Deluxe, with only three PCIe slots, then you can run two of these cards and still have room for Sound Card, or something. This can also save you a lot of money, for instead of having to buy a motherboard with four PCIe slots (for Quad SLI), which is very rare, you only have to buy one with three PCIe slots. One problem with this setup is that they don’t get cooled as well as three single cards because every two cards share one cooling system. This could lower the performance of the cards.

Nvidia 285 (x3) Tri SLI

These are the cards made by Nvidia just before the Dual GPU 295. Nvidia has drivers for three of these all on one computer. This setup also has quite a few benefits, one of them being that they each get their own cooling system, and if they are cooled well, they can out-preform two 295’s. A possible problem is that you need more PCIe slots and the only way to have sound card or something of the sort is if you have a high end motherboard with four PCIe slots, and those are VERY hard to come by. I personally know of only one, the ASRock.

Conclusion

I personally this that the setup with the three 285’s (Tri SLI) would be better for extreme gaming performance, and it is one have the best systems Nvidia can offer. The Tri SLI would clearly out preform the Quad SLI as it has better cooling, and more connection to the motherboard. If money is no object I suggest getting three 285’s Instead of two 295’s.
