How much can a CPU stand without burning?
I still remember the old silent computers that were just too slow to make their CPU’s heat to the point of melting down. If you use the computer for about 20 years you know for sure about what I am talking about. The old 486 DX was the last CPU that did not need any kind of cooling. They were super fast for their time but sure they are not worth almost a dollar today.
At that time the CPU, the fastest one, only needed a small passive cooler to increase the surface in contact with the air to cool, but

Tehn with the arrival of the Pentium processor things started to change. Now you cannot anymore have a CPU without a cooler and no you cannot use a CPU with just a small passive cooler, the CPU would burn in no time. The first Pentium and some late 486 processors had some small fans that would cool the CPU down to the point of the air temperature, they were more than enough to keep the machine lean and sharp.
Now things are completely different, you need to keep your machine a little above the air temperature but to do it so you need to class coolers for many reasons, one is that you need to send a lot of air per minute and this means you will have to hear noise or you will smell your CPU sweat.
How much cana CPU heat? According to Wikipedia, a CPU produces more heat per inch square than the nuclear reactor, this is for you to have an idea of how warm a server room might be!
On youtube if you check for CPU burn you can see some CPU’s without the cooler and the shut down security option activated and they just melt down in no time! I once had an 1.3 GHZ AMD duron, I still have it and one day the cooler did not work and the CPU burned at 100ºC. The CPU did not shut down and stopped working. I think I am very lucky for still having the same CPU running.
I believe that the man who comes up with a new way to cool the machines will become the next millionair because the demand for that product is too much and no company can do it so today.

Wish I was smart enough to figure ouy how to cool computers.
Good to have you back redburn.
Hey Guy…welcome back.
Liked the article.
never thought it could be so hot.. thanks for the info.
WOW! Sounds like they are desk top time bombs!
Thanks,
Clay
I hope something comes out soon….there a little things now…but if your using a laptop a cooling pad/mats get bulky quick especially if you prefer a 9cell battery.
Nice Article
that’s a hot info. Thanks man!
cool ideas… thanks for the information…
