AMD will bring their new server processor, codenamed “Shanghai”, on the market in three months. AMD announced the processors around the end of 2008. They’ll conquer the Xeon 5500-processor by Intel.
The new quad-core Opteron EE-processors should perform as good as the Xeon 5500 processors, but they will use less energy.

The processors, codenamed “Shanghai”, will be manufactured in 45nm and will be available in three months. The memory controller will be integrated on the processor, as usual.
Intel started building the memory controller on their processors too, not so long ago. AMD has been doing this for a longer time. AMD’s product marketing manager says he is proud that Intel starts doing that too, while AMD started this since 2003.
