About USB 3.0 in General.
Yes, It’s almost here!
Did you know that USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed) is coming soon? (End of 2009/ First Quarter of 2010)
Geeky Specs
- 5 Gbps (Speed)
- Full Duplex
- Specification Released: Aug 2008
Well I’ll go into to further depth in the rest of this article.
When operating in SuperSpeed mode, full-duplex signaling occurs over 2 differential pairs separate from the non-SuperSpeed differential pair. This results in USB 3.0 cables containing 2 wires for power and ground, 2 wires for non-SuperSpeed data, and 4 wires for SuperSpeed data, and a shield (not required in previous specifications).
Information
Speed Related
- Data will go either direction in seperate wires inside the USB Cable
- USB 3.0 can charge devices quicker because it is allowed to use more power (900 MilliAmps)
- 10x Faster than USB 2.0 which was 480 Mbps (USB 3.0 is 4.8 Mbps)
- This will be cool when we all have terabyte storage devices
- (Think about a 5TB MP3 Player) Oh, Yeah!
- It will take only approx. 70 secs. to transfer 27 Gigs. Isn’t that awesome?
Appearance
- The cable will be around as thick as a ethernet/ LAN cable. Hmmm..?
- The connectors are backword compatible with USB 2.0
Specification
The USB 3.0 specification is available: (Coming Very Soon) EDIT: It’s here now!
