If you have issues printing in Windows XP SP3 you can correct the issues with just a few troubleshooting steps.
The Windows XP SP3 (service pack 3) is one of the latest updates to the operating system. Although the pack does update your computer you may run into issues with printing a document. However, most problems with printers are easy to correct and are due to issues with the connection between the computer and the printer or the drivers on your computer for the printer.
Make sure the power to your printer is on and the cable is running from your printer to the computer.
Select to print the document, then check to make sure the printer you have connected is the devices you have selected as the default printer (option available in the “Print” window when you select to print). Having a different printer selected results in the printer not printing the selected document.
Remove the USB cable running from your printer and connect it to a different USB port on the computer. Sometimes a USB port can die out, in which case anything connected to it won’t function properly.
Open your Web browser and navigate to the printer’s manufacturer page (such as HP or Canon). Select “Support” then search for your particular printer model.
Select “Windows XP” as the operating system and download the available driver. If you have recently upgraded to Service Pack 3 your computer may not have the correct drivers for the printer. Double-click the downloaded file to open the installation window. Follow the prompts to install the drivers.
