Here is a detailed review of Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5983 for all those who are thinking to buy it.
I bought Toshiba L505D-S5983 last year from Best Buy. I was, in the beginning, very much in doubt that it would be good. But my doubt was proved to be wrong. Before I go ahead with its service review, I would like to lay out what comes with this laptop.
Basically, it has AMD Athlon II Dual-Core M300, 3GB DDR2 Ram and a screen of 15.6 inches. The top cover of the screen is of grayish color and the keyboard has a silvery appearance, but the label says that it has graphite finish. Additionally, the laptop supports DVD and CD playing and two flash drives.
Thanks to the Dual-Core processor, Toshiba L505D-S5983 seems to withstand all heavy duty tasks. As a matter of fact, it can be compared to our custom built desktop computer which is sometimes run for more than 12 hours.

It is really easy to work on this laptop, for it comes up with a separate number keypad found in all normal desktop computer keyboards. But best is watching movies on its screen. The picture quality seems to be crystal clear.
The laptop still has some problems. First of all, cursor is highly sensitive. But again, it can be adjusted. Another problem is the battery life which stays without electricity for something like 1 hour 30 minutes. I must also mention that the speaker’s sound quality is extremely poor. It matches the 80s cassette player’s speakers. Also the top cover of the laptop is very sensitive. A small part of it got damaged just from a small scratch it received from my nightstand.
In addition, it must be noted that this laptop is extremely heavy. So it is not possible to always carry it around. I took it to class only once. When walking with it my hand almost got tired. It felt as if I was carrying a huge luggage with me.
Yet I must say that the laptop never malfunctioned. So I never had to take it for a repair. Yes, I did receive virus on it at least 3 times, but it was due to the fact that I was using the Internet Explorer which came with Windows 7.
The price of this Toshiba laptop is said to be in the range of $300 to $600. That is actually quite less for the kind of services it provides, but that is only if we do not take the poor quality speaker into consideration.
