Even though these machines require little regular maintenance, its still recommended they be cleaned occasionally to ensure top working and long lasting machines.
When these machines have fingerprints, smudges, hair or other debris on the glass or lid backing, it causes slow performance and can affect the accuracy of special features. Before you begin the cleaning be sure to unplug the cord from the power source.
* Dust the exterior of the machine with a soft cloth. Try using canned air to remove dust and debris build-up in crevices and hard to reach places. Wipe off any ink, fingerprints, and smudges from the units exterior. You may use a non-abrasive glass cleaner sprayed on a soft cloth to clean the exterior.
* To clean the glass: Raise the machines lid and clean the glass with a soft cloth slightly dampened with a non-abrasive glass cleaner.
CAUTION: Never use any abrasives, acetone, or benzene on the glass. These can cause damage to the glass. Never spray the cleaner onto the glass directly. Dry the glass with a chamois or cellulose sponge.
* To clean the lid backing: Even if a small amount of debris collects on the white document backing located underneath the machines lid, it can cause poor printing performance. Again, make sure the power cord is unplugged from the power source. Lift the lid and clean the white backing with a soft cloth slightly dampened with mild soap and warm water. Do not scrub but instead wash the backing gently to remove debris and smudges. Dry the backing with a chamois or soft cloth.
CAUTION: Never use paper-based wipes since these may cause scratching.
NOTE: If you notice further cleaning is needed, repeat the above mentioned steps using rubbing alcohol. With a soft damp cloth wipe the area to remove the alcohol.
