This part will cover the history of the harddrive.

The first disk was created by IBM 1956th The model was named the IBM 350 Disk File, and was the first mechanical hard disk. IBM 350 could store 8800 marks corresponding to 4.4 MB. The hard drive consisted of 50 discs had a diameter of 61 cm and its overalldimensions were 173 cm high, 152 cm wide and 74 cm djup19.
The first hard drive was launched for private use was Seagate ST-506 in 1980. The hard drive was 5.25 inches and had a storage capacity of 5 MB. The hard drive was partly made for the IBM PC / XT, but also for the Apple Lisa was introduced in 1983.IBM ST-412 was introduced in 1981 and had a storage capacity of 10 MB.
In the early hard drives as rotating disks with 3600 rpm (rounds per minute). Then came the faster drives in 4500 and 5400 rpm. During the late 1990s as Fujitsu launched the first hard drive with 7200 rpm. It was MPC3045AH (4.5 GB) and MPC3065AH (6.5 GB).
Today’s hard drives usually spin at 7200 rpm. It has recently become a new technique in 2009 based on flash-based drives, solid-state drive (SSD) and is, instead ofmechanically powered drives. These drives have no moving parts but is electronicallydriven. A mechanical drive is usually up to 2TB of space. These new SSDs have onlystorage capacity to 256 GB at the moment but has write speeds of up to 150-250MB/sek20.
