Being addicted to your smartphone, like an iPhone or Blackberry, is a common phenomenon. But, it’s getting really, really bad when research suggests that 15 percent of iPhone users say they’d rather give up sex than go a weekend without their phones. Yet, that’s exactly what they are saying … and possibly doing.
Some 65 percent of iPhone users – and it’s presumed users of other smartphones feel the same way – say they could not live without their phones. For many who use their phones while driving they might find out how soon they can’t live WITH their phones.
There is more statistical evidence about how attached people have become to their electronic devices. Some 52 percent of iPhone owners are seen to be optimistic about their future, while only 28 percent of Android phone users feel the same way.
Blackberry Woes
As for Blackberry users, 33 percent of them fell that “if something can go wrong it will” – which may explain Blackberry’s recent woes and falling popularity. Even worse, Blackberry owners, or at least 33 percent of them say they can rarely count on good things happening to them, and none of them “expect the best to happen to them.” Goodness gracious folks, get rid of that Blackberry and fast!
What else might phone users give up before they loosen their grip on their iPhone? Well, 40 percent say they’ll give up coffee first and in a smelly situation 18 percent say they’d stop bathing before they give up their phone – do they use it while they are bathing? Yech.
The dedicated Smartphone user has their device not only to make and receive calls or texts. According to the Nielsen research folks 64 percent of owners use their device to play games, 60 percent to check the weather, 56 percent for social networking, 51 percent to search for something or use maps, 44 percent to play music, 39 percent to catch up on the news, 32 percent for financial purposes like checking their portfolios or the latest stock quotes, 26 percent to watch movies or videos, and 26 percent for shopping.
Those phone are working hard, aren’t they?
