Warden Robot Served in Korea Prison

This robot can identify changes in the condition of the inmates.

Prisoners who plans to run away or disruptive in the prison of South Korea should think twice. Therefore, the prison in South Korea not only has the guards and watch towers, but now also coupled with the presence of advanced robots.

South Korean government introduced a robotic supervisor and a half feet tall and has four wheels. For the experiment, the robot is only produced three pieces, placed in the prison city of Pohang starting next year. If successful, the robots will be mass produced.

This sophisticated robot task is to monitor the condition of prisoners. He will be a prison guard in the hallway and check each cell. Sensors on the robot body can detect changes in the condition of prisoners, such as the level of aggressiveness or suicidal tendencies.

If found, the robot will immediately report it to the warden. In addition, the robot is also a means of communication between inmates and jailers.

Professor Lee Good-chul of Corrections Forum Asia said that the robot is not like the CCTV screen display only. However, this robot has the ability to identify abnormal behavior in the cell.

“But, the robot is not a security guard. His work is not to stop the violence in prison. They are just helpers. If there are prisoners who are in a situation of harm or ill, the robot will contact the officer,” said Good-chul.

This robot is yet another South Korean innovations in the field of robotics. Earlier, South Korea has made a robot that can teach English, doing homework, even to guard the border with North Korea.
