Ten simple tips to enhance the functionality and speed of your iPhone…
Just go to Settings, Spotlight Search and uncheck anything you do not use.

Disable Spotlight Searches.
Clear Safari History. Just a like a pc, you can clear your cache regularly. Go to Settings, Safari and then select Clear Cache.
Close Down Web Pages. Safari can open and maintain multiple web pages at any one time. So after a bout of surfing, remember to close down any unused pages.
Enable 3G. This is a pay-off between battery life and speed. If 3G is enabled, your battery may run down at a faster rate but it will improve performance. Go to Settings, General, Network to switch on.
Disable Bluetooth and GPS. If you don’t use Bluetooth (I know I rarely do) then disabling it could help. Go to Settings, General, Bluetooth and switch to Off. Similarly, if you don’t need your iPhone’s GPS then disable this too – Settings, General, Location Services.
Reduce Your Recents. Instead of showing 100, 75 or even 50 messages, reducing the number of recent messages shown to 25 will help speed up your device. Go to Settings, Mail, Contatcs, Calendars, Show.
Apps. With the iPhone 4 you can actually quit apps just by double-tapping Home, pressing the app icon and then ‘-‘. Alternatively, you can of course delete any rarely used apps whichever phone version you have.
Delete Your Old Messages. Because they can be backed up to iTunes, make sure you delete your old SMS messages.
Stop SMS and Email Previews. Simply go to Settings, Messages and change Show Preview to Off for SMS and Settings, Mail, Preview, None for emails.
Switch Off Push. To stop your iPhone getting updated each time something happens with your apps, and thus help speed up your device, turn off Push by going to Settings, Notifications and change to Off. You can always update manually whenever you want/need to.
