Save Thousands By Building Your Own PC

You don’t have to be a computer geek to put together your own PC. It’s time to break free of the overpriced big name manufacturers.

Have you ever wished you could have high performance gaming pc, but not spend $5000 dollars on it?  How about a nice multimedia rig to play all of your music and videos on? Well that could easily cost you over $1000.  The problem is that if you want anything more than a very bare and basic PC, the company building it will charge you ridiculous premiums of all of the upgraded components that will go into your computer.  I just built my last PC about a year ago.  It was a fairly high end gaming platform.  It cost me about $900 for all of the parts to put it together.  Just out of curiosity, i built a computer with the EXACT same specs from a company who shall remain nameless (it rhymes with Walien Air =P), and it would have cost nearly $3000.

So, is this a good idea for me?  Generally speaking, yeah.  It is NOT rocket science.  The hardest part about building your own PC is deciding what part you want/need. The actual putting together of all of the components is very simple, and I tell most people it’s s tad harder than building Lego’s.  Most everything will just need to be snapped in place and/or plugged in.

Do I have the time to dedicate to this? Of course!  I believe that the first PC i built took about 30-45 min.  If you don’t have that kind of time to save hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars, you might as well be insane.

I’m interested, so where do i start? First, you need to purchase all of the components. I recommend [www.newegg.com]. Here’s what you are going to need:

  • Case
  • Motherboard
  • CPU
  • Memory
  • Hard Drive
  • Power Supply
  • DVD Drive
  • Operating System (Likely some form of Windows)

That is basically the bare minimum to get your PC to run.  You may also want to consider:

  • Graphics Card (Required for gaming, recommended for Videos)
  • Sound Card
  • Wireless Networking Card
  • Extra Fans
  • Other media drives (Floppy, SD Card etc.)

You now have everything you need.  There is no one right way to build your PC.  Some people can figure everything out without any help.  If you don’t think you are one of these people, search the web for a tutorial.  There are countless resources on the subject.

What are you waiting for?  Go build yourself a new PC!
