A true competitor to the iPhone 4S?
In the world of smartphones, Apple’s iPhone has been on top of the competition for years. Starting with the iPhone 3G up to the iPhone 4S, until now that is. Samsung has been hard at work trying to surpass Apple. The Samsung Galaxy S III is the latest competitor to the iPhone. The Galaxy S III has many features that make it easy and fun to use.
The Galaxy S III has a very ergonomic design suited well in human hands. It’s very comfortable to hold and doesn’t feel heavy. The phone is made of an organic material rather than plastic and it definitely does not feel cheap. Samsung added a 4.8 HD Super AMOLED screen to give amazing resolution and color while keeping response times blazing fast. Samsung’s phone features a smart keyboard which analyzes your typing pattern and guesses your next letter. The screen has a “pip” feature similar to the ones seen on televisions. You can have two screens open at once. If you’re watching a video and you wat to send a text, you can do it at the same time.
Samsung have added some interesting features to the Galaxy S III, including “Smart Stay”. This feature knows when you stop looking at the phone and shuts the screen off. If you stare at the phone for 5 hours, the screen will stay on for 5 hours as well. Look away and it shuts off. If you’ve been away from your phone and missed a call or message, the Galaxy S III vibrates once you pick it up to let you know you’ve missed something. “Direct Call” is a feature for those of us that can’t make up our minds. If you’re sending a message to someone and then decide you’d rather call them, just lift the Samsung to your ear and it’ll dial the number instantly. S Voice is similar to Siri on the iPhone 4S. You are able to communicate with your phone, make appointments, call friends, and many other things. Sharing photos, videos, and music between two Samsung Galaxy S III’s is very simple. Place them back to back and the sharing program opens up for you to use.
The 16 GB Samsung Galaxy S III is the same price as the 16 GB iPhone 4S, but the 32 GB Galaxy S III is cheaper than the same capacity iPhone 4S. A 64 GB capacity Samsung is not available.
16 GB: $649.95
32 GB: $699.95
- Massive screen with great graphics
- Quad-core processor greatly increases speed
- High quiality camera
- Long lasting, removable battery
- 32 GB is great value
- Design isn’t something spectacular
- S Voice isn’t close to Siri
- Samsung talked about inspired by nature, but it doesn’t really show

The phone is great overall and it is definitely on par with the iPhone 4S. The question remains, is this the new king of phones?
