PC vs Mac: Who Will Win the fight?

Windows vs Mac was has been going on for centuries, but which do you really think is better?

Which side do you choose?

The debate over which is better, Mac VS PC, has been going on since the first Microsoft computer in 1975.  I, being both, a PC and a Mac user,  I personally prefer Macs because i feel like they run much faster and smoother.  I love their look and I’m at ease when it comes to viruses.  I do find it very hard to switch back and forth between using a Mac at home and a PC outside of home.

Macintosh History:

The basic summary of the history of the Macintosh or Mac is, it was created by a man named Jef Raskin.  The first Mac was introduced on January 24, 1984.  It was the first commercially successful personal computer to feature a mouse and a graphical user interface (GUI) rather than a command-line interface

The project started in the late 1970s with an apple employee.  Jef Raskin thought of a simple, low priced computer for the average person.  He called it the Macintosh,  named after his favorite apple.  in the early 1980’s Steve Jobs joined the Macintosh team.  Raskin left the team shortly after because of conflicts between himself and jobs.

Pros and Cons of the Macintosh:

For mac lover’s out there you may be thinking, their is nothing wrong with the mac!  It is perfect.  That’s how it was made to be.  You’re right and wrong.  The Macintosh goal was to be the “perfect computer” but nothing is perfect.

Pros:

A mac is faster and sleeker then your average PC.  Since recently, Apple made the very thin laptops (Macbook Air)  compared to PC which had “bulkier” laptops.  If you’ve ever seen a Macbook Pro, it has been designed to be much more sturdier then an HP laptop, because the Macbook is an aluminum uni-body laptop, which means its only one piece and there are no nails keeping the laptop together. After a couple of years all used computers get slower.  Being a current mac user i personally think that Macs last longer then a PC.  My mac has gotten slower and the battery life isn’t what it used to be, but comparing it to my old Acer laptop this computer is definitely an upgrade.  I have much more memory space and battery life has lasted much longer then all the other PC computers I’ve used.   The laptops mouse trackpad is much more convenient then a PC’s, it has shortcuts added for the users convenience; for example swipe four fingers up and it hides all your open windows, swipe four fingers down and it.  Best of all it’s complete virus free.

Cons:

There are many softwares that are incompatible to the mac itself, (unless you download bootcamp).  If you are originally a PC user then it takes some time to getting used to a mac.  Some say that apple products are to pricey, but others say its worth it.  Mac’s are quickly and easily dirtied,  that glossy look doesn’t last forever.  Mac’s aren’t the best computers for games.

Summary: Basically the Pros of an apple product is that its a very sturdy, uni-body product made of aluminum to make it more visually appealing.  Its battery life is longer and the computer itself is faster, (although it has been rumored recently that a PC’s could be faster).  It has quick and easy shortcuts on its trackpad and it’s nearly impossible to get a virus on a mac.  The faults is that there are many softwares that are incompatible to the mac, unless you download bootcamp.  It takes some time getting used to if your switching from a PC to a mac.  The products are a bit more expensive then PC products and the beautiful glossy look is only temporarily.

PC History:

The first computer goes back to 1936.  In 1975, Bill Gates and Paul Allen form a partnership called Microsoft.  Like Macintosh, they wanted their computer in everyones home.  In 1983, Microsoft announced their new development; Windows.

The first version of Microsoft Windows, version 1.0, was released on November 20, 1985.  Version 1.0 had simple programs like Windows Paint, a simple Word Processor, a Calendar, Clock, etc.  Microsoft had worked with Apple to develop extra accessories and other minor software pieces, that were also included into the early Macintosh system software.  Microsoft had licensed certain aspects as “screen displays”.

On December 9, 1987 the Microsoft Windows version 2.0 came out.  It became slightly more popular because of the new apps, Excel and Word for Windows.  Windows also received a large boost when Adobe PageMaker appeared in a Windows version.  It had previously only run on a Mac.  Computer Historian date this as the start of the success for Windows.  Over the years Windows steadily progressed with Macintosh, upgrading its software, trying to top other new technologies that progressed over the years.

Pros and Cons of the PC:

Many people use a PC.  It had its share of good and bad things.

Pros:

PCs are very affordable and cheap.  Its also great for people that don’t need/want a hi-tech top of the line computer.  You can build your own PC from scratch, giving you maximum customisation.  PCs are better for gaming, they have many compatible accessories.  They can be easily upgraded and have much more compatible apps and gaming systems.  They can run Windows 98 on a new computer or Windows 7 on a newer computer.  They are used worldwide so their are much more service companies to help you with your problems with your computer.

Cons:

Many people say that the PC is slower then the mac.  I personally think that this is true.  Its much easier to damage an HP or Dell because it’s not made as a uni-body product. It’s much more easier to get a virus on a PC.  Downloading anti-software takes up space in your computer.  Its a huge hassle to download anti-virus softwares because some are a virus itself.  Many people have to be much more careful while using their PC so it doesn’t crash and burn on them. PCs have extremely slow boot times.

Summary: PCs are much cheaper and affordable, compared to a Apple product.  They are used worldwide, they have a larger customer service.  You can build your own PC from scratch to have a personalized computer.  It’s better to game on a PC because of the mass amount of compatible games.  The main problem is that PCs have a larger tendency to get a virus.  All the anti-virus programs clutter up memory space in your PC.  They are very slow in booting up and the products parts are the top of the class quality.

Overall, Microsoft Windows and Macintosh, both have their ups and downs.  Whether its price differences or the quality of the product. In reality the war over which is better is a never-ending cycle.  Which side do you choose?
