Order From Chaos: Theories About Information Management

That’s it, after trying several new services such as Myspace email, the new french blogging tools such as Overblog and many other smaller (but extremely good) services, even the fastest human reader cannot cope with so much information, much less if the connection is slow. You have emails, Google reader, sites you follow daily, IM, tweets, social networks comments and messages, but most of all, the new services and updates to the ones you already use.

How to keep up with all these things? You can’t. You have to rely in the Law of Chaos and hope that you will not miss too much, at least not enough to make a big loss, because even if you read all the updates from sites you respect, from friends and subscriptions, the time you will spend will always make you lose something else. Sad? It’s the way of the world, it’s just about filtering important things from not (so much) important things and make the best use of your time, at least the best you can.

Some tips to keep up with all this information overflow? Try to keep things all in one place and in the web. Email is still the #1 tool to do this. Friendfeed can keep up with the major social sites (and services) and you can keep up with Friendfeed with email so again email will be the rocket of your life.

Gmail is becoming worse daily in comparison with other improved services such as the new Yahoo and the recently empowered Hotmail. Learning how to read, search and filter email will give you a boost in your information, search skills and time saving skills.
