Computer been running slow lately? Here are a few simple steps to speed your computer back up.
Over time junk collects on our computers. We get viruses, websites fill our computers with cookies, files are scattered all over your computer, and more. In a few simple steps, I will show you how to optimize your computer again.
1: Get a virus scanner! This is definitely the most important step. One virus can easily slow your computer down a massive amount. Along with slowing down your computer, viruses are very dangerous. They can steal your personal information or use your computer for illegal activites, all without you knowing. By downloading a virus scanner and running it every week or so, you greatly reduce your chances of having a virus on your computer.
2: Set up a firewall. The easiest firewall to setup would be windows firewall, found in the control pannel. Any firewalls you set up block access to your computer from dangerous websites, along with virus scanners, this is another must have.
3: Download CCCleaner. CCCleaner is a program that goes through your computer, finding cookies and other temporary web data, and deleting it. It can also be used to delete old registry items that are not in use and clogging up your computer. By running it every week or so, you can delete multiple megabytes of useless trash slowing down your computer.
4: Defragment your hard drive. By going to start>programs>accesories>system tools, you will find the disk defragmenter. What this does is find files that are fragmented on your computer, and fixes them. In simpler terms, it finds files that are scattered around your computer and organizes them. This makes it easier for you computer to find files, speeding it up again. It can also delete copies of files that are not in use, freeing up even more space.
5: Install wndows updates. Most of the time windows does this automatically, but if your system does not, you should download windows updates. These updates are released often and can include many different things to protect and speed up yor computer. Make sure you keep your computer up to date with these updates.
These are just some simple ways to speed up your computer. If you are looking for more speed, you will probably need to get some new hardware for your computer. With these 5 steps, you should be seeing a noticeable difference in your computer speed. Enjoy!
