My Take on Apple

Just my personal impression and opinion on Apple Devices.

Just my personal opinion on the Devices of Apple:

What I own myself and had the time to make my opinion on:

  • Apple iPod Touch 64GB , 4th Generation
  • Apple iPod Touch 16GB , 2nd Generation
  • 27″ iMac, 512MB VRAM, Core i5, 8GB of RAM

My impression about the iPods:

Well, what can I say? For the price I paid, I’d expect more and better hardware, but Apple mostly works with good looks, instead of Hardware which will work. And well, sadly it doesn’t perform all too well, but it does its work, yet with major limitations.

Apple’s Software Limitations, though, can be easily avoided by Jailbreaking your device, allowing you to aquire Root User rights, allowing you to access the whole system, giving you access to a broad range of Extensions, but also making your device more unstable, which, has its cons, but is better, by a lot.

This is my personal Take on the iPod Touch, whatever Generation it is, they improve, they get better, but , as long as Apple doesn’t  give Root Access by default, they won’t really be the best device to use, even though they do come in handy in a lot and lot of times, so, if you’re looking for a device which works, even if it has its flaws and Money isn’t a problem, then I’d suggest to just aquire the most space-capable Model of the iPod Touch, if you’re looking for rather portable entertainment, otherwise, an iPad, if you’re just looking for an alternative from Apple, as, I must say, I don’t have much experience with other devices, so I can just suggest this.

My Impression on the iMac, and its performance:

The iMac starts up quite quickly due to Mac OS X, which is a Plus, but, I own both, a windows computer, and a Mac, and I’d prefer the Windows Desktop Environment any day, due to the sole fact that it’s a lot more comfortable, even though Mac does have its own advantages, for example, you can easily use all of the 2560×1440 Pixels on the screen by zooming, which, isn’t half as easy on windows, and not as integrated.

The Performance of Applications on a Mac, compared to Windows, are mostly worse, but I blame bad Porting for that, and not the hardware in itself. It mostly performs quite well, but, if it hangs up, you mostly will have to remove the power of the device, as you’re quite unable to do anything from the moment it locks up, compared to Windows, where, if for example a game starting gets stuck, you can use CTRL + ALT + DEL and open Task Manager

For the last part, I’d say, in general, Macs are useful and handy to use, but if you’re looking for an all-around environment on which most programs work fine, I’d still suggest Windows. Especially for Gamers, Windows is the way to go, as Any way of emulating a Windows Environment on a Mac, be it virtual Machine or just Bootcamp, the game Will maybe not even run, or just run in a faulty, rather stutter-filled way, even though it should , hardware-wise , easily run the game.

Facit:

Apple Devices by themselves are quite useful , handy, but expensive, their design is mostly what you pay for, not the hardware, as that, would be quite cheap to get yourself. Another Contra point for Apple devices, their hardware, is mostly inaccessible for the home-user, be it Processor or such for the iMac(you can only switch the RAM) or be it anything inside the iPod Touch, you won’t really get anything ,without mailing support or such.

They can still be used, even though, I would suggest, get a proper computer for the money you’d spend on a Mac, or iPod, as they mostly pay more well, even if you’ll lack the Design Apple has, the Hardware will work better.
