How hot is too hot?
Monitoring the tempuerature of your graphics card is crucial to prevent playability issues (artifacting, black screens, shearing etc). When your GPU overheats, in can cause annoying problems, and if the temperature is not brought down, your will ultimately fry your card.
How do I find out my GPU temperature?
There are hundreds of utilities you can download to monitor your GPU temp (a simple google search will bring up countless results). I recommend using either “riva tuner” or “evga precision”. I say this because these programs also allow you to modify your card settings, such as core and memory clocks, and fan speed. You can tweak your settings to get the most out of your graphics card, without causing any damage.

How do i know if my GPU is too hot?
When you are doing something graphics intensive, such as gaming, your GPU temperature will increase, sometimes dramatically.
- >80°C: You are in the clear
- 80 – 89°C: Tolerable for short periods, but don’t let it stay here.
- 90 – 99°C: Too hot, you are slowly killing your card.
- <100°C: You are currently frying your card, hopefully your drivers will crash before any serious damage occurs.
Ok, my GPU is too hot!
This is a problem. First things first, turn up you graphics card fan. If you have good cooling this should fix your problem. If your card has been overclocked, try bringing it down a little. If your tried this and your temps are still dangerously high, you probably have a faulty card, and should return it to the manufacturer.
