You’ve all seen them, the classic Mac vs. PC commercials that Apple, the developers for Mac, has put together. Apple has developed these commercials to try and calm the sometimes heated debates between Mac’s and PC’s.

If you are buying your own computer for the first time, or getting ready to upgrade your computer, you may have had some thoughts about buying a Mac or PC. One of the most popular computer stores, Best Buy™, now sells Mac’s and PC’s.

The first difference people usually notice between Mac’s and PC’s is the prices, and that is usually a big turn off for purchasing a Mac. In fact, Microsoft has produced commercials in which someone will go to find a computer. The person looking for a computer goes over to the Mac’s and usually makes a comment about the price and the size of the Mac. This has caused a lot of people to get the wrong Impression about Mac’s.

Should I get a Mac or a PC?

The decision of getting a Mac or a PC is something no one else can make for you. It really depends on what you want to do with your computer. There are jobs that work better on a Mac, and jobs that work better on a PC.

If you plan to surf the internet, do email, play some games, and maybe type documents from time to time then you would work best with a PC. PC’s work great for someone who isn’t going to be doing jobs that are going to take up a lot of space on the hard drive.

That’s where we bring up Macs. If you are someone that likes to take a lot of pictures and do things like video editing, and maybe even audio production for a podcast or such that is going to take up a lot of space on your hard drive, you will defiantly want a Mac .While it is true that they make some computers with pretty large hard drives, you will still usually be better off with a Mac. Macs have software and specially designed hardware specifically for the production community, and will not slow down because of large files stored on the hard drive.

Why do Mac’s cost so much more than PC’s?

There are several answers to this. Have you ever noticed that when you log into your new PC for the first time that there is all this trial software? Well imagine having all of that on a Mac, except the full non trial versions of the software. Mac’s come fully loaded with tons of software specifically for the field of audio and video production. That includes photo editing and graphic design.

Another reason Mac’s cost so much is because of support, Mac pays their support team a lot to make sure that you will have amazing service when you call.

One final reason is the monitors that Apple uses. Apple uses premium LED Cinema Displays in the iMac’s and Mac Books. There are two computers however that don’t have monitors, and those two computers are the Mac Mini™ and the Mac Pro™, These are desktop style computers. With the Mac Mini™ you can actually save a lot of money. The cheapest version comes at $600, which is the price of a lot of desktop PC’s. Apple sells an adapter that allows you to use a PC monitor with your Mac, which could bring the total price of a Mac Mini ™ with a monitor, pc keyboard and mouse to around $800. If you purchase the apple keyboard and mouse, the price will climb closer to $1,000. That’s still an extremely low price considering the average price of a mac.
