Nuance has greatly improved their Dragon Naturally Speaking speech recognition software and has given an enormous benefit to all would-be writers for instant dictations of their thoughts and words.

Nuance has released Dragon Naturally Speaking 11.5 which is faster and more accurate than previous versions of Dragon. In addition to that Nuance has released Dragon Go! (a one-app access to the Mobile Web), Dragon Medical Practice Edition, and Legal Edition. Moreover, Nuance has created several releases for Apple users like Dragon Dictate and MacSpeech Scribe. Speech recognition tools are a great asset to have in a writer’s arsenal of creative gear for dictating text, speed, and commanding Web browsing. Especially great for those who suffer from aching hands and fingers from excessive typing. Professionals and top business organizations are utilizing Nuance’s Dragon Speak software for creating fast, accurate dictations, and more efficient data collecting.
Several years ago I started with Nuance’s Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 software which allows you to write documents, emails, search the Web, and even control your PC entirely by voice. Very practical for the avid writer, student, and professional alike. Now on the flipside there is Windows Speech Recognition for free which works just as well, but it is well worth the price to shell out some extra money on a more powerful and accurate speech recognition program. My experience with Dragon 10 was very impressive, especially with its ability to handle our voice speed up to 160 WPM knowing we speak quicker than we type, and still deliver an accuracy up to 99 percent. Dragon learns as it goes, self-correcting spelling mistakes, and can be bundled with a Bluetooth headset for a compete hands-free experience, and let’s people move up to 30 feet away from their computer while dictating. But I strongly recommend purchasing your own separate and more powerful stereo headset like Logitech if using Dragon 10.

However, Dragon Naturally Speaking 11.5 seems to have improved accuracy and performance, and the technology making Dragon 11 faster, better, and a much smarter speech recognition tool than previous versions of Dragon. Nuance has made new product features, upgrades, and Dragon 11 also has a new and improved headset. New voice commands have been added to Version 11.5 making it easier to post to twitter and Facebook, with new editing and formatting commands, a new interface allowing more usability to create accurate documents and text.
Be sure to also look into Dragon 11 Premium and Dragon 11 Professional. Premium 11 comes with remote microphone application which can turn your iPhone into a wireless microphone, giving the user the ability to lay down thoughts and ideas without the use of the keyboard. Premium 11 also works with Open Office, Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail, Microsoft office applications, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and has the ability to use direct voice commands and is more accurate than Dragon Home Edition, and is great for educational and business users. Professional 11 has a more powerful and larger vocabulary and more features than the Home or Premium. Professional 11 has the ability to control your computer without the need of a headset with the creation of the free Dragon Remote Microphone application which is available at the Apple app store, using the iPhone, and it works flawlessly with 3G, 3GS, 4G, iPod, iPod2, iPad Touch 4th generation running iOS 4.2, and WiFi. Professional Evan has the option to save audio dictation in DragonPad, Word, WordPerfect and OpenOffice Writer.

With Nuance’s Dragon Naturally Speaking 11.5 gives the writer free range to dictate their thoughts and ideas with a high level of accuracy and speed, perfectly suitable for business organizations, professionals, photojournalists, novelist, poets, students, and the casual text user. Using Dragon will enable you to write faster and create more, with the ability to quickly and accurately put your ideas to print. I fully endorse the use of speech recognition tools to help maximize a writer’s potential and creative output.
