Some claims by Apple users are bupkus. Then again, Windows isn’t perfect either. Let’s just make our own judgment here.
I think I’ve heard countless arguments in terms of Apple computers being better than Windows PCs. Conversely, I’ve heard my equal share of the advantages of Windows versus Apple. Overall, I feel that trying to compare them is unnecessary insofar as it’s really a matter of preference. The problem is that I’ve been seeing some ludicrous slandering onto Windows and it’s time to set things straight.
Also, if you’re going to make a laptop or computer purchase in the future, you might be interested in knowing how to buy the ideal laptop for yourself.
Let’s get to some of the most common claims that everyone has seen.
Mac User says, “Yo, my Apple gets no viruses.”
Regarding viruses, avoiding them is just a matter of common sense. It isn’t a significant issue. The true problem people have been pointing out is the fact that the majority of viruses in cyberspace are geared towards infecting Windows computers and not Mac computers. Look, sure the statistics might be true, but less viruses doesn’t mean that an Apple is not susceptible to getting a virus. There are plenty of viruses in this world that can attack the Mac. Furthermore, if you recall, in March 2009, a Mac was hacked in an impressive 10 seconds.
So my fellow readers, the point is simple. Just because there’s statistically less viruses geared towards the Mac doesn’t mean that you’re not going to get viruses or that you’re completely safe. Furthermore, it doesn’t mean that a Windows user is going to get viruses all the time. Recall that getting a virus on a Windows is usually a matter of common sense, not a matter of Windows being “suckish”.
Mac User says, “Yo, my Apple is faster than your PC.”
I’m not sure if this is even a legitimate argument. It’s like saying ostriches are faster than gorillas. You see, computer speed is based upon processing speed of the processor, RAM, and your graphics card if you’re evaluating the speed video games and whatnot. The Apple is not faster than the PC because it is an Apple but because it has better specs. Sometimes this is true, but sometimes it’s not. Just remember to evaluate speed by specs not brand names.
Furthermore, I’ve been seeing more Mac users using their computers for the sole purpose of browsing the web, writing word documents, and other really basic stuff. Of course they’re going to be fast for really basic application usage. Aren’t all computers PC and Mac alike fast for basic applications?
Regardless, the point here is that the brand name is not what speeds computers up. It’s the specs or the quality of the hardware that makes it fast.
Now, let’s move on to some disadvantages of the Mac.
It’s just not pragmatic.
Personally, I don’t feel I could see the Mac being used for the company level or basic home use. The problem is that Macs in themselves are relatively overpriced. Furthermore, it’s geared towards looking good rather than performing good. Buying a Mac with current prices in mind is more of a luxury than a necessity. It’s the candy bar to the bread.
Just do some math on the specs. At the same price of an Apple computer, you could probably find a PC with the same stats but at a smaller cost. The way I see it, users are geared towards users looking specifically for that environment the Apple provides, not just an average Windows OS environment. Users feel they are using a luxurious piece of technology rather than the norm.
Furthermore, even if you don’t buy that, recall that buying the individual parts for a PC and building a computer that way will always be cheaper than buying a Mac of the same specs up front at a store. It’s critical to stress how flexible a PC can be in terms of building it at a low price as well.
But, in all honesty, there’s no problem in looking at the Apple from the view that it’s a luxury and a great piece of technology. The problem is in its practicality and why it’s not a pragmatic choice in terms of cost to the average Joe. Furthermore, just remember that it’s the perception of looking good here, not actually being good.
It’s just as flawed as the PC.
Look, we all need to acknowledge flaws in both systems here. Windows and Apple computer all have their foibles and their fortes. They are freeze up once and a while and all crash every now and again. It’s the nature of the game. However, saying that one is more flawed than another based upon baseless claims is just not respectable.
At the end of the day, both the Mac and PC give users a different environment with different advantages. There really isn’t a clear winner over another. They just offer different things. Basically, what we’ve got to establish here is that it should be us who makes the judgment in terms of if a Mac is better than a PC, not what Johnny at the ice cream store says.
