1. Kevin Mitnick
Kevin Mitnick, is considered as one of the most freaky hacker of all times and even though he was not a genius programmer he was able to make some notorious cyber attacks and earns the top of the hackers list.
He started his hacking marathon by using bus dummy punch card for free rides, phone hacking, steal data of corporate companies, downloaded number of paid software’s for free and also break into the national defense system.
Finally after almost 2.5 years of his hacking career he was arrested by FBI and charged for his cyber crimes and sentenced to five years of prison.
2. Kevin Poulsen
Kevin Poulsen also known as Dark Dante is another hacker who started his hacking career at the age of 17 using ARPANET. One of his popular attacks includes the issue of Los Angeles FM radio where 102nd caller is awarded a sports bike. He hacked into the phone systems in the city making sure that all the incoming calls are blocked and was successful in making himself the winner of the prize.
In spite of his smart work and luck he was arrested and convicted for five years in prison.
3. Robert Tappan Morris
Robert Tappan Morris is the person who came up with the first computer worm and is also known as “Morris Worm”. He developed programs that replicated itself and spreads into global network harming computers and in the long run making them unusable.
His notorious act made more than 5000 computers unusable.
He was arrested in 1986 and sentenced for 3 years of prison and a fine of 10,500 dollars.
4. Adrian Lamo
Adrian Lamo is a hacker who was responsible for hacking into the networks of popular Information Technology tycoons like Microsoft. His intentions for hacking these organizations had no serious intentions but he hacked high profile organizations by breaching their secured networks and also pointed them with their flaws as an anonymous user. He used Internet from public sources like cyber cafes for his purpose but still was arrested and later convicted for his unauthorized access.
5. Jonathon James
Jonathan James was sentenced for in-house arrest of 6 months with probation after intercepting personal emails and data of officials from organizations like NASA. He was able to gain access to the software that controls various configurations and parameters of satellites such as environment temperature.
